Toy guns spark police raid on Wild West fancy dress party

Ladies and Gentlemen, Common Sense has left the building. Why was I not surprised when I read this headline today. It seems that the police cannot go for more than a week without doing something stupid, dangerous or both. On the scale of stupidity this one really is tipping the scales.
Surely the fact the the apparent "gun-toting maniac" was dressed like John Wayne should have been a slight give away that he wasn't about the hold up the local Post Office. Although these days most criminals would be lucky to find a Post Office that was actually open. Given the fact that there were a number of similarly dressed people for the occasion should have sent even more alarm bells ringing.
Well at least this debacle gave the happy couple something to laugh about. Although it is a sad state of affairs when the nations police force becomes the butt of all jokes. However, until common sense returns to the police I am afraid that's how it will be for a long time to come.
I guess one solution would be to have those responsible to for incident to be taken out the back of the police station and shot. I understand that to many this may seem a rather extreme response but it would certainly make the rest of the police buck up their ideas. Unfortunately I think that my idea my fall foul of the European Convention on Human Rights - Pity. I guess this is just another good reason why we should get out of Europe.

  1. Brilliant mate, you're more cynical than I thought! You have to remember though that its all about results driven policing (Labour initiatives revolve around dubious stats that often don't stand up to scrutiny). They don't bother investigating car crime anymore or come out for burglaries because they know there's no real chance of catching them, and the Home Office just want good stats so they can say the crime rate's gone down. Plus if they do arrest and prosecute anyone, the courts will just give them a slap on the wrist, especially if they have a criminal record stretching from here to Uranus. So its easy to find some daft old codger in cowboy gear and arrest him for being in charge of a deadly weapon, as that'll look good on Home Office stats - like they're actually making a dent in gun crime. Obviously this is easier than going after gang members who would probably just get a £5 fine to pay back over the course of the next 20 years!

You truly are a cynical bugger!
